Through this Wriggle, you'll enjoy not one, but two delicious alcoholic drinks from one of the city's quirkiest cocktail bars, giving you double the trouble for your Wriggle.

Firstly, you'll sip a "Mini Shirley Bassey" drink – that's Ocho tequila, raspberry leaf & peach blossom tea, mixed with perry & lime for a fabulously fruity concoction. Then, choose any cocktail from the rest of the menu.

These glorious cocktails are inspired by famous Welsh-folk; check out a few of our favourites:

  • Patrick Bateman (for Christian Bale): Star of Bombay gin, Absenteroux vermouth à l'abinthe, blood orange liqueur and bitters
  • Tommy Cooper: pisco, umeshu, celery and plum shrub, Pernod absinthe and lemon
  • Dylan Thomas: Glenmorangie, Ardber, ramazzotti, coffee liqueur, chicory, lemon and egg white

So, look skyward to Barrack Lane's curious hanging bird cage, ring a stiff fire exit bell and enter a world where mixologists come to play and city dwellers come to indulge.

About The Dead Canary

An empty bird cage, hanging outside an inconspicuous fire escape, is the only hint that there may be something worth exploring off the otherwise quotidian Barrack Lane on the periphery of the town centre. Ring the bell, wait with baited breath and hope that the door eventually inches open. If you're lucky enough to step into the dimly lit space within (laced with a zesty, musky bergamot infused scent and flickering, crackling light), you'll eventually find yourself in an underground time capsule. Cardiff's very own 1920's Prohibition-style speakeasy bar, resplendent with cocktail maestros who wouldn't look out of place in Peaky Blinders, one of the most fantastic selections of alcoholic creations in the country and a friendly crowd that spreads a viscous, intoxicating atmosphere from the early afternoon to when the caged canary breaks into morning song. The Dead Canary is more than just a back-room bar; it's *the* back-room bar. Away from the madding crowds, they craft premium alcoholic offerings with their own unique stories to tell, inspired and firmly rooted in this part of the world (recent incarnations have taken inspiration from Middle Welsh Oral traditions, myths and legends). The mixologists are top notch; the vibe effortless and the surroundings gritty, Welsh and industrial. The Dead Canary is a secret you'll want to keep for yourself - but, we wager, won't be able to.
