About Pettigrew Tea Rooms

Cardiff’s loveliest spot for a cup of tea and a sit-down is Pettigrew Tea Rooms. Established back in 2012 within the picturesque Castle walls of Bute Park's gatehouse (the grandiose main entrance to Cardiff's most celebrated city-centre green space), Pettigrew’s period setting is matched perfectly by its quintessentially eclectic crockery and selection of chinaware from times gone by. You'll see it adorning tablecloths and hear its gentle tinkling as a procession of "milk and two sugars" are stirred to perfection. Killer cakes, scones and fancies greet you from a glass cabinet at the front of the tea room (imploring you to start drooling before you've sat down to look at the menus) and savoury lunchtime classics promise to satisfy even the most ravenous park explorer. Team Wriggle regularly goes weak at the knees at the thought of Pettigrew's Coffee & Walnut or Sticky Lemon Drizzle creations, and words can't describe how good the Carrot Cake tastes. It's perhaps the pick of the bunch, and we thoroughly recommend that you indulge in a very large slice. Understandably, afternoon tea is a pretty big deal at Pettigrew’s (they're famous throughout Wales, don't you know, and the best tables are often booked out well in advance). Served properly – on toweringly tiered cake stands with Sandwiches, Cakes and loose leaf tea – it'll almost be a shame if you don't dress for the occasion and get properly involved with the vintage vibe. But Pettigrew’s are not only about tea, cake and lazy lunches. Oh no. Their stonking Welsh breakfasts (served with freshly baked laverbread scones, obviously) are game-changing in this part of town. You won't want to miss them.
