This Sunday, two chefs from Cardiff’s pop-up food scene are teaming up to throw a wood-fired, seasonal feast that will officially mark the end of summer.

Phill Lewis, owner and head chef at Dusty Knuckle pizza, is teaming up with John Cook, from the DIRT vegetarian supper club, to create a one-off event that’s all about celebrating the onset of Autumn with a feast of hearty, seasonal, comfort food.

All dishes cooked at the feast will be served ‘sharing-style’ ready for friends and family to help themselves, and the ticket price also includes a glass of natural wine from Wrights Wines.

Fresh with ideas from his recent trip to the Salone de Gusto Slow Food Festival in Turin, Phill will be serving up huge sharing portions of roasted Welsh lamb with cumin and preserved citrus, free-range chicken with smoked bacon and garlic butter, and flat iron beef with mustard and rosemary.

Meanwhile, John will be dishing out ‘corn from the coals’ cooked with raw butter and smoked salt, tandoori cauliflower with béchamel sauce, and smoky seasonal veg roasted directly in the embers of the fire.

Starters will include tomato ragu cooked with chorizo, basil and mascarpone; and smoked aubergine with chickpeas, tahini and olive oil.

For those with a sweet tooth, the promise of Mrs DK’s bread and butter pudding served with orange marmalade and buttermilk custard should prove impossible to resist.

About Dusty Knuckle Pizza Co

After beginning life as a popular pizza pop-up, the internationally acclaimed Dusty Knuckle Pizza Company eventually moved their bigger - and now permanent premises at the PrintHaus arts collective. The pizzeria is based in a quirky urban courtyard furnished with recycled materials and featuring an edible herb garden, complete with a pizza oven hand-built by owners, Phill Lewis and Deb Noyes. With freshly baked, pillow-soft bases, the pizzas are laden with locally sourced ingredients like Penclawdd cockles and laverbread, and pepperoni from Llanelli-based Charcutier Ltd. Alongside pretty-much-perfect pizza, expect vibrant salads, indulgent antipasti boards and decadent desserts. For liquid refreshment, wash all that down with a cold craft beer from nearby local brewery Pipes.
