About the {{offerTypeLabel(offer)}}

National Theatre Wales’ and Quarantine’s extraordinary new show invites its audience into a conversation about language with performer Jonny Cotsen – a performance built out of a fascination with what happens when we try to talk about how to live together. It’s inspired by the theatricality of language lessons, and discussions with migrants who learn English for all kinds of reasons. For business, for pleasure, for survival, to take part, to pass the test…

This exuberant A to Z of language and identity - made in Wales, but with a global perspective - pulls pop songs apart, tears grammar to pieces and invites all the languages in the room to be heard. A joyous, intimate, provocative encounter, English asks how language shapes us all and what happens to our sense of self when we don’t really know how to say who we are.

Doors are at 1:30pm and the show starts at 2pm.

About Dance House Cardiff

An award-winning dance company in the heart of Cardiff Bay, The National Dance Company of Wales is a pioneer in the field of modern dance. Shielded from many a curious bypasser by the iconic, shimmering facade of the Wales Millennium Centre, Wales' contemporary dance kingpin is tucked away behind the Bay's most famous building - inconspicuous, but absolutely worth seeking out. The building's frontage is a low-key affair: altogether more modern than its illustrious neighbour, clean lines, sweeping geometric feature windows, thousands of red bricks stacked unerringly high. Inside, though, it's all about space. Space and potential. Raised seating for the audience; an intimate canvas of black flooring; anticipation and bated breath; a witnessing of some of the most inspiring performing art and interpretative dance on offer in the UK. Featuring an imaginative, evolutionary programme of work from celebrated international choreographers, Welsh talent and world-renowned artists, NDC Wales gives audiences (many of whom will be enjoying contemporary dance for the first time) a unique opportunity to not only experience compelling stories told through Dance but to discover more about how the works are created, share in the inspiration behind the dance or talk about dance with the artists and creators. A must visit for lovers of the Arts.
