How do you like the sound of a dinner in the heart of Stokes Croft that's as sumptuous, seasonal and satisfying as it is reasonably priced, relaxing and restorative? Thought so...

With this Wriggle you'll enjoy a slap-up dinner, consisting of three seasonal small plates – although take our word for it when they say that there's really nothing small about these plates at all... You'll accompany your dinner with a glass of house wine – what could be better? We recommend going with your best mate and booking a couple of Wriggles, then sharing all the dishes between you.

Want to get your mouth watering? Check out a few of our highlights from the current list of seasonal plates, although do bear in mind that head chef Craig switches up the menu very regularly, depending on what seasonal, fresh produce is at its best each day...

  • Roasted hispi, romesco and duck egg
  • Heritage tomatoes, goats cheese, tomato essence and wild garlic
  • Cured hake, fennel, apple and radish

About The Arts House Café

The Arts House Cafe is smack bang in the heart of Stokes Croft, and is instantly recognisable with its glorious bright red exterior and its floor to ceiling windows. You might have popped into the building before under its previous nomenclature of The Arts House, but now the place is under brand new ownership, and as Bob Dylan once famously sang, the times they are a-changing. The new team cut their culinary teeth at Wallfish Bistro, and they're bringing a brand new vibe with them as they make the space their own. They've done a sterling job of renovating the interior of this beautiful building, maintaining it's beautifully rustic gallic bistro charm with repurposed and reclaimed wooden tables, deep, velvety-red walls, and vibrantly coloured flowers in the middle of each table. The daily menu is wistfully jotted down on chalkboards on the walls (intermingled with an eclectic selection of artwork from local artists), whilst those instantly recognisable floor to ceiling windows flood the space with light, bathing it in a relaxing glow and making it the ideal vantage point from which to observe the hustle and bustle of Stokes Croft. Sitting inside at one of the cosy tables, your eyes will be drawn to the open kitchen. Here, you can watch head chef Craig at work, admiring his majesty as he concoct a range of delicious bistro-style dishes. Ooft, and about those dishes. Simple but exceptionally well executed, the food at the Arts House Café is packed with seasonal ingredients of the finest quality, treated gently and skilfully to create a British and European-inspired bistro-style menu. Dinner at the Arts House Café is a relaxed and extremely good value affair – come with your closest friends and stay for an evening of first-rate food in the creative, cosy heart of Stokes Croft. Meanwhile, Giles heads up the bar and coffee counter – an area which gets devilishly busy in the afternoon as a hotchpotch of people from all walks of life descend on the Arts House Café to work, people watch, read, unwind and catch up with friends over a cup of Clifton Coffee Roasters coffee. If you fancy something a bit lighter to eat, there's also a fabulous brunch menu, offering an array of sumptuous dishes to suit all tastes. We love the smoked haddock with rarebit toast, but to be frank everything looks utterly scoffable. One last thing: hidden downstairs there's a brilliantly intimate little events space, which regularly hosts some of the area's finest comedy, acoustic jam and spoken word sessions. If you're planning an event, get in touch with Giles – it's a great space for events of all kinds!
