Real Positive Poles are proud to present their December show: a science/fiction double feature!

That’s right, as well as their signature brand of science fiction comedy this show will also feature a talk from world leading researcher Dr Rob Hughes on how to conduct grand larceny with science!* So, what's on this double feature billing?

Spon Trek: The Next Improvisation

As if 741 episodes and 14 movies wasn’t enough, this brand new episode of the cult science fiction classic Star Trek is brought to life before your very eyes. Based on audience suggestions this parody is suitable for all levels of Star Trek enthusiasm.

  • “Wonderfully geeky … you’ll be kept grinning for the rest of the day” – Edfringe Review
  • “If you're a fan of Star Trek, improv, or small cardboard space ships it's a must-see … ★★★★★” – Andy Daly

Real Positive Poles have performed around the UK and are two time veterans of the Edinburgh fringe. Their cast have trained around the world, from America to Australia and unite their skills regularly in Bristol.

Dr Rob Hughes: How to rob a bank with a magnet

Join Dr Robert Hughes on his audacious mission to supplement his university salary by breaking into the impenetrable vault of his local Lloyds TSB using nothing but the principles of electromagnetics – the science of the invisible electric and magnetic fields that govern our modern lives. Discover how their remarkable phenomena can be exploited to remotely sense, control and manipulate our surroundings and along the way learn about solar flares, magnetic confinement and a whole lot about criminal practice. Expect demonstrations involving magnets and Slinkys, plus plenty of aiding and abetting.

Rob Hughes is an electromagnetic physicist and engineer at the University of Bristol, with a passion for scientific communication. He has presented at the Royal Institute and the Royal Society, but not the Royal wedding. He once gave a free public lecture at the British Science Museum before he was politely asked to leave, is a frequent speaker at events such as Pint of Science, and was a scientific adviser for the comic book Surgeon X.

*Neither Real Positive Poles nor their partners endorse the use of any principles, scientific or otherwise, to commit crimes. Attending this event does not constitute a valid legal defence.
