About I Love Hoagies

Philly - what a magnificent town. They brought us coronary-inducing cream cheese, gut-busting melted cheese steak, Rocky Balboa running up some steps in a hoodie (presumably to burn off all that cheese...), Tom Hanks' very best movie (inspired by cheese dreams, you'd better believe it) and - of course - The Hoagie; a hefty torpedo of doughy bread (think half-bagel-half-bloomer) crammed with painstakingly slow cooked goodies, a smorgasbord of sauces, fresh salad and - of course - all 'dat American cheese. Fresh from South Wales (where the Hoagie has long been king), the infectiously friendly guys at I Love Hoagies have crossed the Severn to take your lunchtime by storm. Offering up some of the wackiest sandwiches in all of Bris in a propery belt-and-braces setting (The café space below Pithay studios is a haven for creatives, start-up companies and all sorts of hungry so-and-sos), the eating experience here is refreshingly blue-collar (odd house-plant and funky graffiti aside, it's decidedly anti-hip in here). We'd recommend the Firefly (secret recipe 12hr slow cooked beef brisket, jalepeños and "up in smoke" sauce), the veggie Dwayne Dibley (veggie meatballs, cheddar and salsa) or the Donnie Darko (ham, salami, pastrami, Monterey jack cheese and salsa).
