The first Belly Laughs gig is a curry feast in Brislington, with curries, bhajis and Indian tapas brought out until everyone is stuffed. Plus the main event, an evening of live comedy curated and compered by local legend, Mark Olver.

Belly Laughs is a series of charity gigs throughout January, and raises funds for Julian Trust night shelter in central Bristol. Intimate gigs in restaurants and cafes around Bristol and the South West, featuring local comedy and culinary talents.

Olver sez:

"I try and make every Belly Laughs gig different. Some, however, are more different than others. The Curry House on The Bath Road is at the end of my street. It’s one of the best curry houses in Bristol and people don’t quite realise how great it is. As well as being the most local venue to me this particular gig on this particular date is even more exciting than normal. It’s the very first Belly Laughs of 2019 (oh, and some other nonsense that will become apparent on the night. And the people who run the restaurant are actual friends of mine and provide all the food (an amazing selection of Indian Tapas with the best Bhajis I’ve ever had, curry, naan, and loads more stuff) for free. So all proceeds can go straight to the charity! And you can eat as much as you want, the food will keep coming. This should be one of those nights you’ll never forget."

About Belly Laughs @ The Curry House, Brislington

January is time for Belly Laughs, a series of comedy gigs around Bristol and the South West, set in independent restaurants and cafes. Belly Laughs is a showcase of Bristol's food and comedy talent. It promises unforgettable nights in intimate venues, and all proceeds go to support Julian Trust, a night shelter in central Bristol. It's the brainchild of Bristol comedian, Mark Olver, who started Belly Laughs last year after noticing how January was a quiet period for both restaurants, and for his comedian friends. He saw the opportunity to book in some impossible gigs―huge names in tiny spaces―and to raise money for a worthy charity. Last year, Belly Laughs put on shows in ten venues around Bristol, and raised over five thousand pounds. Lineups will change right up till the moment the show begins. He's already confirmed Rosie Jones, Fern Brady, Jarred Christmas, Stuart Goldsmith for different spots across the festival, as well as dozens of the best of Bristol's comedy scene. These gigs will be sold out before the exact lineups are known, so think of it as a secret gig. Expect a great show with great food and know you're supporting a good cause.
