To celebrate the launch of Kitgum Kitchen, the honour of your presence has been requested at their new home, The Mesmerist. Sample any of the Sahani Kubwa (Big Plates) from the menu including beautiful meat and vegan options. If you can stand the heat get to the Kitchen for the Lamb Kalyo - Slow cooked lamb curry garnished with fresh chillies, sautéed potatoes, lemon and coriander. Served with the signature carrot pickle. The Kuku Paka is something of a favourite - Free range chicken thighs with garlic, ginger and coconut sauce. We recommend a fried egg on top for an extra 50p in-house! We love the vegan Mchuzi wa Biringani - Stuffed aubergine and potato curry in a spicy tomato masala. Served with carrot pickle and yoghurt. A favourite amongst Swahili people!

The extensive Sahani Ndogo (Small Plate) options are equally as good. Wriggle favourites include the Kenyan Potato Fritters (Vegan), the Karanga wari Kasori (sweetcorn cobs in a peanut sauce) and the Kitgum Samosas (chicken or vegan). The Jeeru's Wings are amazing too, and you can upgrade your small plate to these for an extra £2 in-house.

About Kitgum Kitchen @ The Signalman

Having built up a loyal following at The Sir Charles Napier and following on from a sequence of magnificently successful residencies at The Hare and Hounds and then The Mesmerist, Kitgum Kitchen has landed at The Signalman. Founder Fayaz is sharing his family recipes, packed full of the tastes of East Africa and Gujurat. Back in the Seventies, the Ugandan president Idi Amin decreed that all Asians only had 90 days to leave their homes in Uganda. Fayaz' parents were among those kicked out, and though they only had time to pack a single suitcase with them, they brought with them an astonishing array of recipes from their heritage. These unique fusion dishes are what Fayaz cooks today at Kitgum Kitchen, and they're like nothing you've ever felt before – expect big, punchy, moreish flavours and inviting presentation – and make sure you're hungry when you arrive! Expect a gorgeous range of small plates (aka Sahani Ndogo) that are perfect for sharing over drinks, or work well as a starter before the Sahani Kubwa (big plates). Everything at Kitgum Kitchen is homemade, and they use free range eggs and chicken.
