These beauties have a crisp,  flakey pastry filled with golden yellow egg custard, cooked to perfection. Rich, creamy, indulgent and absolutely delicious, these are one of Team Wriggle's go-to pick-me-ups, and we know you'll love them too!

About Salcooks

After a decade working in professional kitchens (including hotspots in London and Lisbon), Sal, Rute and Huw joined forced to start their own venture - and in April 2018, Salcook was born. Originally making a base underneath the railway arches, a stones throw from Snow Hill station in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, Salcook’s fast-growing popularity (a testament to their passion and dedication to what they do) has now led them to making a permanent home in The Rifle Maker Building on Water Street. They also always have a couple of hot options (such as wild mushroom and stilton pie), perfect for when you need a warming bite on colder days. And then there’s the sweet stuff - an array of fruity pavlovas, brigaderio and sweet palmier are usually on display, as well as chunky slices of cake. But in true Portuguese style, there’s the tip-top of sweet treats - pastel de nata (Portuguese custard tarts). One bite of these, and we’re transported to the colourful streets of Porto. It’s worth noting that whilst Salcook’s old spot was purely takeaway, their new set-up on Water Street has a handful of tables and chairs outside. So make sure you stick around, take a seat and hit the pause button. Delicate eats with inspiring and refreshing flavours - Salcooks is the lunch spot you’ve been waiting for.
