The Lazy Leek 'shack' looks just like a suburban garden shed, but don't let that fool you. This recently opened mini-kitchen at Kings Road Yard in leafy Pontcanna serves some of the best plant-based burgers and badass sides you're ever likely to eat. Everything on the menu here is free from meat and dairy – the LL team want to share with the world how easy, tasty and exciting eating vegan can be. This means hungry plant-based easters can chow down on anything and everything, from glazed blueberry donuts, huge Cow-less burgers, fresh and 'pulled' portobello mushroom dirty fries.

Thinking of trying to eat a little less meat, but still want your food to taste flippin' fantastic? Then you'll love the sound of DIRT - a new pop-up supper club. DIRT events use locally grown, sustainable ingredients and innovative cooking to challenge clichéd assumptions about vegetarian food; that it’s bland, unimaginative and unrefined. The events ‘pop up’ twice a month at venues all over South Wales, and the chef behind the concept is none other than John Cook, former owner and head chef at the critically acclaimed Arbennig restaurant in Pontcanna.

Society Standard takes inspiration from the industrial-chic feel of New York's Lower East Side, whilst their culinary offerings move away from the well-worn burger and fries choices, with a far more inventive, delicious range of small plates, bistro offerings (poised with a modern twist) and adventurous creations that will have your imagination running wild. They cook a mean steak, too, and word has it that their Mac 'n' Cheese is one of the best in town. Go for dinner, stay for cocktails.

Another stellar foodie addition to the city centre's burgeoning indie food and drink collective, QSK has undoubtedly strengthened Quay Street and Womanby Street's claim as Cardiff's very own parallel universe of ultra-visit-worthy indie deliciousness. Boasting a dazzling array of kaleidescopic salads, grilled cheese brunches, epiphany-inducing cake and perfectly poised coffee (roasted and shipped in from the caffeine cats at Plug Coffee out in Dinas Powys), this is a minimalist brunch-come-lunch gem that, although you've probably moseyed past a dozen times, you'll not want to miss again.

The Thai House is the historical home of Thai food in Cardiff, having arrived 30 years ago as the first of its kind in Cardiff. In that time Thai House has stood up to the tide of identikit chains flooding the St. Davids area through its delicious cooking and focus on Thai authenticity. The food zings with all the flavours you'd hope for in a Thai meal: chilli, ginger, garlic, Thai basil. We highly recommend trying the Massaman Curry, a peanut curry with beef, of exceptional quality. Along with that, Thai Classics such as Pad Thai, Tom Yum and Thai fish cakes reign supreme. If you're in the mood for a memorable meal at a restaurant with decades of personality, there's not much of a better choice in Cardiff than the Thai House.
