It seems insane to have to tell people who live in Cardiff about Clwb Ifor Bach, but maybe you’ve only recently moved here, or perhaps you grew up here, but have been living under a rock. Either way, you’ve been missing out.

Clwb Ifor Bach (AKA “Clwb” or “Welsh Club” depending on who you ask) is one of the most culturally important live music venues in Cardiff. It is located smack-bang in the heart of Womanby Street, one of the oldest (and most fun) streets in Cardiff, just a stones throw from Cardiff Castle.

Founded in the eighties as a social club for Welsh speakers, it has since morphed into the best music venue in the Capital. A combination of fierce Welsh pride (most staff still speak the language fluently) and a progressive attitude to booking (the venue hosts both upcoming acts and well-established favourites from across the musical spectrum) make Clwb the perfect place to experience the city's nightlife.

It’s impossible to pin Clwb down to a specific genre, as it hosts so many different types of music. Rock royalty such as The Strokes, Foals and Peter Hook have all played here, as well as huge names from the dance music world - Andrew Weatherall, Maya Jane Coles and Jackmaster have all featured on the lineup. Even on the nights with no acts booked, the music is some of the best and most varied in Cardiff thanks to their excellent resident DJs.

Keep an eye out here on Wriggle as over the coming months we’ll be working with Clwb to bring you special deals on tickets for some amazing artists. In the meantime, get down there and have a drink in a part of Cardiff musical history! See you in da clwb!
