You get the feeling that the stallholders at Cardiff Market are bemused by the street food movement taking over the city: Some of them have been serving up incredible dishes in the capital’s indoor central market since 1891. Anyone with even a hint of an appetite for good food can spend a happy couple of hours in this culinary mecca, leave a couple of lbs heavier and a couple of £s lighter. Here are six of our recommendations for the best stalls to visit at the market.

Thai Asian Delish

Seriously good Thai food served to take away, or eat at the counter.

Top tip: grab yourself a Basil Seed Juice and watch the market go by.

Welsh cakes made before your very eyes. Enjoy one yourself and treat nine friends for less than the price of a flat white.

Penylan Cheese Pantry

Choosing a cheese from this selection is a challenge. Luckily, you can pick and mix your cheeses for maximum dairy fun.

This offshoot of the popular City Road restaurant has your vegan and veggie needs covered, from kombucha to kimchi, Buddha bowls to Ban Mhi.

Unusual teas, hard to find spices and healthy lunches from Cardiff institution The Parnsipship makes this stall a must-visit.

The biggest fresh fishmonger in Cardiff is a giant when it comes to the market. Pick up almost any seafood and cook at home or enjoy some on the hoof. Anchors away!
