This week, we're shining our bright, foodventuring light on one of Cardiff's most thriving foodie hotspots: Cathays. Earn double rewards points at the area's best indies, all week long.

What's happening?

It's simple: you'll earn double rewards points every time you book a Wriggle at one of Cathays' amazing indie venues. When you've earned enough points, you can redeem them for Wriggle credit to spend at any of our partner restaurants, pubs, cafes and street food stalls, all around Cardiff.

What do I need to do?

Nothing; the points will be applied to your account automatically, just like normal – only this time, there'll be twice as many of them!

Sounds cool – how do I know how many points I'll earn?

Before you book each Wriggle, you can see exactly how many rewards points you'll earn for it, written above the price of the Wriggle.

Neat! How do I find out how many points I've already earned with Wriggle?

Simple: just click here to check your points balance

Awesome – what venues are on Wriggle in Cathays?

Keep reading to find out where you can earn double points this week – and remember that when you refer your friends to Wriggle, you each get £5 credit, too! Click here to start referring your mates

Hogwurst, Cardiff's specialist bricks-and-mortar hot dog joint, is all about the relaxed vibe. Popping with colour and resonating to the sound of proper playlists and mouth-half-full chatter, it's a place to kick back, enjoy heartily made grub and soak in the youthful ambience of an area sited smack-bang between Cardiff's vibrant student quarter and the eastern edge of the beautiful Blackweir Fields. Undoubtedly one of Cardiff's most popular day-time student eateries, evenings see young professionals and all manner of folk with an Americana appetite slurping on incomparably thick milkshakes and tackling some devilishly designed dogs. Hogwurst's dogs, by the way, are all packed with high-grade-super-pork from Native Gloucester Breeds reared on small farms (no cheapo mystery meat here!), all slathered in generous amounts of toppings and all arranged on top of brioche buns from the local baker extraordinaire at Allen's - thus guaranteeing that each porky creation is as mouthwatering as the last.

Hungry students of Flora Street, thirsty young professionals of Hirwain Street, all you movers and shakers of Cathays Terrace. Behold! The Flora is a brilliantly colourful space with a solid collection of moreish cocktails and alcoholic creations, and feel good comfort food: locally-sourced, hand-made, best enjoyed with mates and a few schooners of good beer. It's something a little different to the Cathays norm, but where you'll still feel properly chilled during the day and thoroughly entertained as the evenings draw in. If you hadn't guessed, Team Wriggle are fans.

In keeping with traditional Greek values, this clean, bright and homely restaurant on Crwys Road bears the name of the family's matriarch. And very proud she must be, too, for this place is about as unpretentious and lovely as can be. Every dish on the menu at Maria's is prepared fresh to order, and all the classics are present; there's hearty fare like moussaka and souvlaki, mezze (think calamari and marina (fried whitebait) - and of course, Greek salads bursting with sun ripened olives, juicy tomatoes and tangy feta. Pining for a holiday but can't quite afford the air-fare? Book yourself in for a sunshiney meal at Maria's instead - it's just the ticket.

Tucked away inside Cathays Community Centre lies Embassy Café, a little ray of sunshine. During the week, this is where Riverside Sourdough set up shop, baking their incredible artisan breads and serving up simple, nutritious and delicious whole foods from the café. Simplicity is the name of the game at Riverside Sourdough, and, unsurprisingly, bread is the star of the show. The Riverside gang are of the firm conviction that bread should not simply be a background player in a meal; it has the potential to be the hero in its own right, and that's a manifesto that we can get on board with.
