It’s back and it’s bigger and better than before. Street Food Cardiff kicks off on Friday (25 August) and runs every weekend for a whole six weeks. Ditch the diet because you’re going to want to try ALL of these. Here are Wriggle Cardiff’s guide to what’s on offer. 

What: This cheery yellow food truck travels across Wales to serve you traditional Venezuelan cuisine. Try the arepas; they’re amazing.

When: Every week

What: Sri Lankan street food at its finest. The egg hoppers are out of this world, and there are vegan options available, too.

When: Week 3

What: This Cardiff favourite does some of the coolest ice cream around – and, here’s the science bit: it’s made using liquid nitrogen.

When: Every week

What: Vegan ‘vonner’ kebabs, you say? These ones from the popular Cardiff restaurant will please even the most die-hard of carnivores.

When: Weeks 2, 3, 4 & 5

What: Deliciously dairy-free ice cream and gluten-free cones. Definitely not as virtuous as it sounds.

When: Every week

What: The tastiest Thai you’ll ever try. The sticky beef rotis are famous in Cardiff and the vegan version is hella good, too.

When: Weeks 1, 2, 3 & 5

What: Another Cardiff favourite and as you might have guessed, these guys are beefy. Only the finest Welsh black beef is used to make these burgers, and boy, can you taste it. Vegans can enjoy a juicy jackfruit burger.

When: Every week

What: The best bakery in town if you ask us. For dangerously delicious doughnuts and other sweet treats, The Early Bird Bakery is a must visit.

When: Every week

What: Terrific tacos with some great veggie options – prepare to drool all over the deep fried avocado. Expect a warm welcome from Sian and Jake – and Contessa, their Ford Transit, who spent her previous life as a police riot van.

When: Weeks 1, 3, 4 & 5

What: These guys are saving the world one hot dog at a time. No, seriously: for every banger you buy, these guys gift a food package to a child in need. If you want to feel good about eating junk food, here’s your answer. Veggie and vegan options, too.

When: Every week

What: This Greek Welsh family serves some seriously good souvlaki – that’s a Cypricot kebab to the uninitiated. And trust us: one bite will have you head over heels.  

When: Weeks 2, 3, 4 & 5

What: This arancini is more than all right.  In 1972, this family business left Sicily and Rome for the green grass of Wales and have been dishing up authentically Italian street food ever since.

When: Weeks 3 & 5

What: Purple Poppadom is doing the rounds at this summer’s festivals in a big yellow truck. Enjoy home-cooked Indian food at its finest: we love the Keralan fried chicken and samosa chaat.

When: Every week

What: Now, here’s a cute camper van (it’s a 1987 Mercedes) and the food’s just as attractive. Everything’s grilled to perfection so feast on Persian lamb kebabs and fire-roasted aubergine. Yum.

When: Weeks 1, 2 & 5

What: Herefordshire’s finest. Using quality ingredients and local suppliers means that this really is honest British street food – and the beef brisket is pretty damn perfect.

When: Weeks 2 & 4

What: New York-style chicken wings all the way from Devon. Lola’s Wings bring the farm to the festival but instead of running around in the fresh air, these chickens are slathered in a lip-smacking sauce.

When: Weeks 2, 3, 4 & 5

Who: Go get yours in the little red truck and sample the best and possibly only proper poutine in Wales 

When: Weeks 1, 2, 4 and 5.
