A micropub according to the Micropub Association is defined as follows: "A micropub is a small freehouse which listens to its customers, mainly serves cask ales, promotes conversation, shuns all forms of electronic entertainment and dabbles in traditional pub snacks".

Snuffy Jack's, the newly opened Micropub in Fishponds is certainly ticking all these boxes. Taking over a stationary shop on the main high street they have really made the space their own. Employing reNEWd Creations owner Matt Comley, they have created a lived in feel but with plenty of light and space. Owners and a mangers Dave and Johnny first met whilst serving in the navy. Dave went on to have a football career both playing and teaching youth teams out in the USA and Shanghai. After reuniting and heading back to the UK, Johnny was keen to see a micropub culture in Bristol similar to the one he knows back in his native Manchester, and so, Snuffy Jacks was born! Now proudly serving as the third micropub in Bristol alongside Chums and The Drapers Arms we hope this paves the way for a few more!

What you will find in Snuffy Jack's is a good mixture of local cask ale picked by Dave, straddling anything from Stouts to Pale Ales and all brewed in the South West. They especially look forward to the Bristol Beer Factory and Good Chemistry orders rolling (as do we) and showing customers that cask and traditional style ales are just as good as their kegged, craft, hoppy counterparts. However, if that is more your bag, there is usually plenty of selection in the fridge of Moor Beer cans as well as wine, cider and tip top gin and tonics if you really don't like beer.

The walls are adorned with local artists including Louise Foster, Anna Blightman and David Penrose which really gives the place a living room feel along with the friendly openness from the owners. Snuffy Jack's really nails the Micropub feel right on the head.  When it comes to traditional bar snacks, there are plenty and I was delighted to see that "Chicken and Chips" was still a firm favourite 12 years since i started in the bar trade. For the uninitiated its a packet of crisps with a Ginger Beards pickled egg in it. If you need something more substantial, Wriggle favorites The  Burger Joint, who are literally across the road, will deliver burgers right to your table. How's that for banging service!
