In Bristol we are used to London types heading down the M5 to open sister restaurants but Cardiff bars and restaurants crossing the bridge to us doesn't happen often enough. So to hear that Bar 44, one of Cardiff's foodie gems are coming to join our established Bristol family couldn't have us more excited!
Bar 44 specialises in Spanish tapas dishes and rare sherries all served in a relaxed, European setting. The trio of siblings behind Bar 44 and Asador 44, their sister steak restaurant, were all schooled in Bristol and are looking forward to returning to fill the space left behind by Wild Wood in Clifton Village. They are aiming to be open in July in time for cava and tapas in the glorious Clifton sun.
All the ingredients on the menu are seasonal and sourced from both the UK and Spain and the drinks list is 100% Spanish including sherries, wines, cocktails and Gin Tonicas (Spanish style G&Ts served in goblets and with garnishes). The Cardiff menu includes dishes that focus on simplicity such as a selection of cheese, cured meats, hand carved jamon and delicious things on toast, the perfect sharing food to linger over with friends. With Bristol becoming quite the hub of Spanish style bars and restaurants we think Bar 44 will be a fantastic addition to the food scene, Salud!
