We've been trying to prepare you for the onslaught of winter for a while now, as you might have gathered from both our guide to Bristol's best comfort foods to you fatten you up over the colder season, and all our delicious deals on the app. But where do you go for when you want something sweet afterwards? Think decadent, indulgent and rich. We don’t care about carbs when we can hide them under our big new winter coat or a thick woolly jumper. So we've rounded up a few of our favourite puddings to feed your soul...
We all know that there is nothing more warming that a hot pastry pie. BUT, did you know that Lovett Pies have come up with a brand new sort of dessert sorcery? Say hello to Pie Screams; a sweet dessert pie, wrapped lovingly in buttery pastry. Lovett tend to be experimental in their creations, so the pudding pie options are subject to change, but classics such as banoffee are a regular feature. Wriggle suggests putting your trust in the hand of these absolute pie gods, and simply going with the pudding pie flow. Delish.
I scream, you scream, we all scream for Pie Scream...
But Woky Ko don't do desserts, right? WRONG. Larkin and his lovely team are your new best friends, pudding lovers, because they are the purveyors of the salted caramel ice-cream bao. Eeek! This sweet treat comes in a variety of flavours and combinations, as the team regularly change their menu offerings. A little bitesize piece of dessert heaven, one bao might not be enough. Keep an eye on their social for a different bao each day whilst they celebrate their one year birthday.
Take a bao, Woky Ko.
If we need to tell you who Swoon are, then we're virtually slapping you on the wrist right now. This gorgeous gelato bar (recently voted the best ice-cream in the country, don’t you know?!) not only offer incredibly flavoursome and regularly changing gelato scoops, but also dish up a wide range of indulgent desserts, too. The Swoon banana split is quite the gluttonous sight to behold, but you can also grab swoon-on-a-stick ice-creams, mini macaroons and SWOON FRIGGIN' GELATO CAKES. Desserts don’t come much better than these.
Swoon for Swoon.
For those who favour the fried and prefer the pastry, the churros at Pata Negra will no doubt be the dessert of choice. Spanish-inspired, crispy-fried doughy pastries, covered in sugar and served with a melting pot of thick gooey chocolate – these sticks of joy are seriously addictive! The Decor at Pata Negra also lends itself perfectly to colder, wintery times - find yourself a cosy corner in the dimly lit, inviting bar area and order a glass of red to accompany your sweet treats.
We've all heard of deep-fried specialities, but Soul Fish have offered up a real winner with their deep-fried Oreo dessert. This seriously indulgent pud does not disappoint; crunch into the fried outside layer to reveal a warm, soft chocolate centre which can only be described as heart-warming and more importantly, delicious. As if you needed another reason to love them, they're vegan! Sit in and have these after your proper fish and chips, or pop-in on your way home from dinner and pick some up for that last minute sweet treat.
Fresh into Bristol from Southampton is new harbourside resident Sprinkles Gelato. The dessert restaurant, launched by three brothers in 2012, is bringing some serious sweet goodness to the centre. With over 200 flavours of gelato alone, you’ll be spoiled for choice. If ice-cream doesn’t float your boat however (it is winter, after all), the menu is filled with classic sweet treats such as waffles, crepes, sundaes and cookie dough. We like the sound of the 'Mischievously Melting' - milk chocolate chip cookie dough topped with Reese's peanut butter cups. YUM. Better still, Sprinkles have just launched a brand new custard menu in time for winter - Christmas has come early, guys.
Sprinkles hot cookie dough melts our cold wintry hearts. Sweet dreams are made of these.
