Harriet’s of Hove is a food, toiletries and kitchen products refills store with a difference.

Opening this weekend, Harriet's of Hove will be the only completely plastic free packaging shop in Hove and offers shoppers an entirely new experience. As well as refills, the store will offer unpackaged seasonal vegetables, a wide range of bamboo products and many more sustainable items for us to rid unnecessary plastics from our daily lives. Whether you're a sustainability expert, or simply curious about the environment - this eco friendly store will offer something for everyone, with a focus on helping our planet.

The new venture is jointly run by partners Harriet and Mhiran. Both working in healthcare they have a first-hand experience in striving to live more sustainably. Harriet is an NHS Ambassador for Sustainability in Healthcare and has transferred her skills into the sustainability of the shop. It is a first time business venture for them together and they truly hope that the shop can grow to be more than just a refill store for the community. In time, they hope to see the business flourish and become an environmental hub of interest and would like to be using the space for classes and groups in the evening. The overall goal is to make sustainable living accessible for all. They're mighty passionate about reducing plastic usage and welcome anyone to come in and to take on the challenge of saying no to single-use plastics!

By working closely with suppliers, encouraging a ‘bring your own container’ habit and buying produce in bulk, the store will be able to develop a more circular way of procuring food and produce. They believe that lowering plastics shouldn’t just be for the consumers, but should be supply facing also. Harriet and Mhiran believe that the power of the consumer is great and that if pressure from retailers demands a better way of packaging, delivering and pricing food, then the suppliers will listen. Therefore, Harriet's of Hove will explore different methods to inevitably lower the carbon footprint of what they procure.

The duo also fully support other local businesses and buy from many local individuals and suppliers. They pride themselves on having some of their stock delivered or collected for the store by foot. Contributing towards the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals is a great focus for them. This enables a better planet for all and ensures collaborative work on an international scale for worldwide planetary health.

We wholeheartedly support Harriet and Mhiran on their plastic-free mission and can't wait to see how the business grows. Make sure you get down there this opening weekend and check out the environmentally friendly goodies on offer.

You can find Harriet's of Hove at 48 Blatchington Road, Hove, BN3 3YH.
