Brace yourself… Igloos are coming

When it comes to keeping the chill out now winter has begun in earnest, why not learn from the real experts – Eskimos – and get merry in an Igloo? From next week (November 30) until New Years Eve, a stretch of seafront between Brighton’s two piers will be studded with ten colourfully-lit igloos. Up to 16 of your chums can book ahead, and it’s free! Well, alright – they insist on a minimum £150 group spend, paid upfront as a deposit. But come on. Igloos! Anywhoo, the food menu has all sorts, from local trademark fish ’n’ chips to burgers, loads of veggie/vegan choices, and even roasts on Sundays, courtesy of the awesome Brighton Music Hall. Booze-wise, you can’t go wrong with a dozen or so craft beers, plus mulled favourites, and even a wintry take on our lovely hippy city’s beloved Tuaca. Book here https://www.brightonmusichall.co.uk/book-your-igloo while you still can…

Save animals, pocket some cash (one week to go)…

Purezza is offering diners money off their lunches if they pledge to give up animal products and go vegan. The funky St James’ Street spot has teamed up with charity Animal Aid to offer a healthy 15 percent discount on lunchtime meals until the end of this month. All diners need to do is sign up to the vegan challenge, and for their trouble they will not only enjoy a delicious plate of discounted vegan nosh, but they’ll receive a raft of recipes, nutritional tips, and the chance to enter a prize draw. Participants will also be invited to swing by The Retreat Animal Sanctuary in Kent to visit the adorable animals who live there – most of whom were rescued from certain slaughter. Cheap grub, saving the world and meeting cute animals? We’re in…

Fancy meeting these cool cucumbers, Tristan and Big Al the turkeys? Course you do.

Go smart with Streetsmart

It’s no secret that Brighton has a serious homeless problem, which alas only gets worse this time of year when the temperatures plummet and tourism grinds to a halt. Streetsmart is an awesome charity initiative that wants to help. Throughout the months of November and December, participating restaurants are encouraging diners to add a voluntary £1 donation to their bill, which they then pass on to the charity. In November/December last year Streetsmart raised nearly £600,000 that went directly to meals, beds, training and job schemes aimed at helping the homeless. Participating Brighton restaurants this year are: Coggings + Co, MEATliquor, POLPO, New Steine Restaurant, and The Jolly Sportsman. You know what to do Brighton…

Win I’m 64

Michael Bremner, the mastermind behind 64 Degrees, won big at the Brighton and Hove Food and Drink Awards earlier this month, scooping the coveted ‘best restaurant’ and ‘best chef’ gongs. Bremner also won silver in the ‘best restaurant’ category for his snazzy new beachfront spot, Murmur. Other big winners: our friends at The Salt Room won gold for 'best afternoon tea', Burger Brothers reasserted their dominance with gold in the 'best burger' category and Curry Leaf Cafe, who opened a new Kemptown outlet earlier this year, scooped gold in the ‘best family dining’ stakes. So work your way through the champions, and tell us what you think the fuss is about…
