Based in the Great Western Arcade, the award-winning Loki is a sight to behold. Shelves stacked five rows high line most of the wall space, full to the brim with wine from across the globe. One of the goals Phil Innes set himself when establishing Loki was to ensure that loki stays a young collective, and in doing so all wines should remain interesting, vibrant and diverse in flavour-profile and budget. This means that alongside recognisable and staple wine types, you’ll also find some unique natural and sparkling wines that you’ll struggle to find anywhere else. They’re also conscious to keep prices reasonable too, so anyone and everyone can pick up a quality bottle without breaking the bank.

Tsukiji Japanese Restaurant serves some of the most authentic Japanese food you’ll ever eat in Birmingham. Named after the Tsukiji market of Tokyo – former biggest fish market in the world – the team have decided to offer food as fresh as if it were from the market, but with a fancy twist to it. Whether it’s traditional street food, BBQ, sushi – we recommend order the 1m sushi plank, because it can never be too much –, ramen or desserts, they’re all absolutely mouth-watering and utterly delicious.

As part of their fish selection, there’s often a choice fried calamari, coconut breaded tiger prawns, and mussels in a cream and meade sauce. And when it comes to vegetable based dishes, the dahl, fermented hispi cabbage, and salt baked beetroot are winners in our books.

Stocking beers from breweries across the UK and beyond, a trip to Cræft is to join in a daily celebration of all things beer. Believe us, they’ve served it all: a banging berliner weisse from Turning Point Brewing Co., this sweet session oat pale by Box Social Brewing, a crisp cranberry and papaya sour from Cloudwater, and a rich milk stout brewed by our old-favourites Wiper and True. Dream it and Cræft are likely to have it. Just like their beer and cocktail selection, Cræft don’t cut any corners when it comes to their food. They serve both brunch and tapas plates throughout the day, with each serving made using British produce that have been selected, prepared, and preserved in eco-friendly ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

For those who haven’t indulged in Persian cuisine before, the Saba team have crafted a menu that gives you the perfect introduction to a wide scope of dishes and delicacies. Everything is made with a mixture of traditional spices, fresh vegetables, and high-quality meats to ensure that each dish is of the highest-quality and is served with genuine tastes and textures. We recommend grabbing a few things to share, like a Chelow kebab-e-Barg (charcoal grilled fillet of lamb skewer), Chelow Jojeh Kebab (skewer of grilled marinated chicken breast), Ghorme Sabzi, and a side of hummus with naan. Almost everything comes served with a side of saffron steamed rice, which is lucky for you as it’s probably our favourite part of the meal.

=Inspired by New York pizza joints, Peacer serves a bountiful selection of pizzas by the slice. Each slice starts its life as a 20” pizza made by owners Dann and Jack, who create perfectly balanced dough in-house using a slow fermentation process. They even go as far as to make their own sauce, which is equally rich, sweet and herby. Once the pizzas have risen to the challenge and are fired off, the carving process begins, ensuring its divided equally into perfectly sized slices; thin and wide-brimmed with a delicately blistered crust, each slice is the perfect shape to hold in your hand, with the base supporting the weight of the toppings with ease.

With such passion and understanding behind Katsu Kitchen, you know you’re in for an outstanding eat. Headlining the menu is the team’s exceptional chicken katsu curry: a lightly crumbed chicken cutlet, served with a rich and spicy sauce on top of a generous portion of super sticky rice - it really is no wonder that this is one of the most popular Japanese dishes in the UK! The Katsu Kitchen team understand how irresistable slices of crispy panko chicken are, including it across the menu in their maki rolls and as a topping in their ramen. But don’t get us wrong - this isn’t all about meat. There’s also some exquisite vegetarian and vegan friendly dishes to boot, in forms of curries, donburi and salads.

Land only opened in early 2019, but it certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed. Images on their website alone highlight the passion and dedication that goes into Land’s vegetarian and vegan plates: a balancing act of vibrant seasonal vegetables on bases of arched sauces and contrasting tableware. Their menu moves with the seasons to ensure things are constantly changing and to make the most of the best produce at any time and place. There’s no single culinary influence on what’s served here, which means you’ll find flavours inspired by many different cultures and countries (such as a meticulous serving of tofu, aubergine, choi sum and shimeji), but it’s clear that there’s a fluent language in each of the plates: a somewhat simplicity where subtle flavours and complementary notes work together to elevate plant-based ingredients into something that’s more complex than you can imagine.

After opening its doors in 2017, The Ruin has gained quite the reputation, not least because of the look and feel of the pub itself. Inspired by run-down bars in Budapest and Berlin, owner Richard has adorned the space in eclectic up-cycled furniture and photographs of his favourite musicians. Half painted walls and roughly sanded wood panelling deliberately gives The Ruin an edge, as if the space is close to collapsing. You get the sense that The Ruin has an “anything goes” attitude; it’s mix-matched decor gives it a bohemian atmosphere that attracts a wild bunch looking for a good time. With regular live music events, you’ll almost always find yourself right in the middle of the best party in town. The Ruin also dabbles in food too, but don’t expect the usual pub grub. The team here are doing things differently, with goulash, koftas and Hungarian meatballs making up part of their regular menu. On Mondays, they promote meat free eating as much as possible, with special dishes highlighting that a good eat doesn’t need to be based around meat.
