Italo-Welsh fusion is on the cards at Porro, the 2015 project from Potted Pig co-owners Cerys Furlong with husband Tom and friend Gwyn. Located in the affluent area of Llandaff, Porro has stamped its mark enough to open a second restaurant in Cardiff. The interior of the restaurant is described as 'mattoni e malta' meaning bricks and mortar – this lends itself to the rustic atmosphere of Porro and the homely food that they serve.
Dedicating themselves to the Italian mantra of keeping ingredients simple and high quality, they aim to only use local produce (breaking the rule every once in a while to import proper Italian ingredients when necessary). While classics such as pizza and pasta are available accompanied by imaginative sauces and toppings, the a la carte houses unique delights such as Crispy-Skinned Fillet with Aubergine Caponata, Ox-Cheek Papardell and Welsh lamb with Courgette and Pancetta. Modern takes on classic Italian Desserts such as Tira Mi Su and Panna Cotta reign supreme.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Porro. The staff were very polite and attentive and the food was lovely, would highly recommend the cheesy leeks and the pizza Porro, we will definitely be going back!
