James Sommerin’s sleek establishment sits by the pier in Penarth looking out over the Severn Estuary. It’s one of the finest views a Cardiff restaurant has to offer, but we guarantee that your eyes will be glued to your plates. As one of Wales’ seven Michelin-starred restaurants, expect only the finest freshest ingredients, presented exquisitely and eloquently by James, his wife Louise and their hard-working team.
Having made a name for himself on the Scottish food-scene, James moved back to Wales in 2000 to work at The Crown at Whitebrook, earning his first Michelin star in 2007. He opened his self-titled restaurant in 2014, and this is his second year the venture has boasted a Michelin star. We reckon if he continues to produce food at this level, we can easily see him running Wales’ first 2-star establishment.
The surrounding area is as much a part of the restaurant as he and his family is; with fish from Cardiff market and vegetables sourced locally – you’ll even find some dishes served on pebbles and stones, inspired by the beach across the road.
The menus don't give away much, but a menu of seasonal ingredients, purposely designed and thought out; we guarantee you’ll be impressed.
James offers more than impeccable food, excellent service, and stunning sea-views – he offers an experience to be treasured.
