Following on from the massive successes of Arbennig and Dirt, Ember is the perfect fusion of the two, hosting both a 'meat' and a 'vegetarian' menu to choose from. It is led by chef John Cook, who is passionate about the produce he uses, as well as how to showcase them as best he can.
They are now popping up at Milk & Sugar, One Central Square to serve a lavish and delightful fixed four-course menu, made with fresh, local and seasonal produce and thus, changing every month. You can expect fine and skillfully cooked ingredients, with original and unique flavour combinations.
The venue's normal function is a coffee shop for the building.. It's very well appointed, with a contemporary, almost Scandinavian style. Seats are comfy and tables are a good size and height. Because it's not normally used in the evening there are no blinds to stop the evening sun shining in your face, but sunset is a real bonus if you sit in the armchairs for a coffee. We like it but the decor has a vibrant, business-like air and it's not what some might consider an intimate, romantic setting, however, that's also true of many a modern restaurant.
