With the quality of French patisserie being knocked out by Cocorico you could be easily forgiven for thinking you’re sat in a trendy Paris cafe. But no, this is Whitchurch Road and the artisan behind Cocorico’s cracking pastries is Frenchman Laurian Veaudour. As is only fitting for such perfect patisserie, they’re showcased in a glass cabinet running the length of the modern and minimalist café. The praline and hazelnut cream-filled Paris-Brest, salted caramel-filled tarte au chocolat and magnificent macarons are all some of the essential picks - but it’s not just the patisserie which is en pointe. Coffee is first rate, sandwiches are served on house pretzel buns and brunch dishes include smoked haddock kedgeree with a soft boiled egg.
“It's all about being inventive and different. Our cakes marry the technique and finesse of French patisserie tradition with a love for quality ingredients and new flavours – we never listened when people told us not to play with our food.”
