Slap bang in the heart of Stokes Croft opposite the graffiti-laden Carriage-works, the Crafty Egg is a welcoming cafe with a relaxed vibe. Despite only opening recently, they've built up a loyal following already - with their Afghan eggs (a shakshuka type affair served with a toasted piece of pitta bread to mop up any leftover dripping yolk and smokey paprika tomato sauce) renowned. This is also a recipe owners Ben and Kate learnt when they were visiting "the Jungle" refugee camp in Calais on a charitable mission - so it's got an interesting backstory to match.
Their smoothies are maybe fruit's closest competitor to a nice big hug. Meanwhile the Crafty Egg has now opened up for evening dining or a quiet drink - think small plates perfect for a first date, or a grand cheese fondue (is this Bristol's only fondue?) which is perfect for a romantic tete-a-tete or excellent for big groups to share. It's also a more laid-back option than many of the Stokes Croft bars around it!
The bagel was incredible - tasty and satisfying for a post work snack. Lovely atmosphere as always
Lovely food! Great atmosphere, great date night spot!
A casual, friendly and cosy atmosphere perfect for a no fuss evening.
Really tasty cheese experience!
Really friendly and helpful staff. The fondue was absolutely delicious.
The fondue was fantastic and the atmosphere was great. The only thing that let the Crafty Egg down was it's drinks selection which was very limited. Not everything was in stock, there were no spirits or sugar free soft drinks options and the wine selection was very limited and expensive for what it was.
