Bohemian, community-minded and as lovely as the North Bristol neighbourhood it calls home, this 60 seater tiffin-eatery-come-thali-tin-takeaway-emporium is Montpelier through and through. And with good reason - for this is where Thali's first permanent outlet set up shop (after a few halcyon years spent by owner Jim and his enterprising team battling through the mud and weather in a converted Thali wagon to serve delicious Indian street food to hungry festival-goers at the likes of Glastonbury).
Inside you'll find a brushed aluminium bar (looking a tad like a reconstituted aircraft fuselage - albeit with more bells, whistles, overhead beer bottles and general pazazz), exposed wooden beams running underfoot and a heady concoction of colour, light and sound. Oh, and don't forget the customers, either - many of whom have now been regulars since Thali opened their delicious doors all those years ago.
Montpelier aside, It's fair to say that Thali have become a truly integral part of the Bristol food scene, working hard to give back to the community that has welcomed them in with open arms. In October 2017, the Thali gang picked up the prestigious Sustainable Restaurant Association's 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' award, thanks to their amazing reusable thali system. Want to join the 10,000 happy customers helping Thali to reduce their waste? Simply purchase a delicious, curry-filled multi-layered metal thali tin, and keep returning to Thali to have it refilled. An honest, rewarding reason to keep coming back for more delicious nosh! What's more, their chicken is free range, their fish is sustainably sourced, and they use seasonal, organic, locally produced fresh produce where possible.
Love the Thali cafes :)
Lovely little restaurant, great food. Great value. Definitely will go again.
Delicious food served in a lovely environment.
Really nice food and helpful staff
Tasty food and speedy service in a lush setting. The Keralan salad is a knockout and I credit Thali for my love of paneer.
A wonderful deal - masses of delicious and well made food. We opted for the chutney tray too which included a super yummy lime type dip. The kind staff even gave us the recipe to make it at home!
