Across Bristol, the Thali Café has established itself as a successful small-scale independent chain. Though this may sound like a recipe for bigger branding and bulk-made meals, owners Sid, Sam and Jim have managed the unmanageable and stayed true to their original values. Way back in 1990, this enterprising trio started a campaign for tiffin traditions across UK festivals, starting with a truck at Glastonbury. The success of the venture led to a permanent outlet set up on a cosy Montpelian corner. Thali Café continued to grow in popularity, as Bristolians discovered and came to love the big, beautiful, colourful food which the gang consistently deliver.
It's fair to say that Thali Café have become a truly integral part of the Bristol food scene, working hard to give back to the community that has welcomed them in with open arms. In October 2017, the Thali gang picked up the prestigious Sustainable Restaurant Association's 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' award, thanks to their amazing reusable thali system. Want to join the 10,000 happy customers helping Thali Cafeé to reduce their waste? Simply purchase a delicious, curry-filled multi-layered metal thali tin, and keep returning to Thali Café to have it refilled! An honest, rewarding reason to keep coming back for more delicious nosh! What's more, their chicken is free range, they use sustainably sourced fish, and their fresh produce is organic, locally produced and seasonal where possible.
The Easton branch of Thali Café fits in perfectly with the welcoming, community-focussed spirit which exudes from the rest of Easton's thriving food and drink scene; it's an open plan, family-friendly space, perfect for a family get-together or a special meal out with mates. The colourful, sparkling exterior welcomes you in from St Mark's road, and the food is like a great big, warm hug that'll keep you coming back for more.
‘Thali’ - the signature dish - is the Hindi term for ‘plate’ or 'platter'; traditionally a large silver dish acting as base for a selection of meat or veggie mini platters, chapattis, chutneys and paratha style breads. These thali are a real treat for those of you who don't like to limit themselves to a single choice when eating out, preferring try a whole load of different tasty things.
Thali Café's fresh juices and creamy lassis – including an exotic Jaipur Strawberry and Rosewater mix – are the perfect balancer for spicier dishes, as are their excellent selection of beers, including their own house beer, the Desi Biyar.
