Tucked away in a Grade II listed building in the heart of Bristol city centre lies Roots Lounge – a brand new grass-roots veggie and vegan cafe that's bursting with soul.
At the helm is Shel (possibly the lovliest person in all of St Nick's!) and, in the kitchen, passionate chefs Jacob Flannigan and Kayleigh Barnes (two vegans on a mission to prove that veggie and vegan food can be accessibly priced, hearty and – most importantly –mouthwateringly moreish) work their magic.
Roots' menu is built around simple food that is simply lovely to eat, with a few unexpected twists along the way. We're particularly enamoured with the Roots Breakfast: falafel, sambal (homemade hot sauce), spinach and seeds on toast, but there's some pretty hot lunchtime choices, too. If you're after something homely, unpretentious and utterly delicious, try the Seitan Chicken Burger. Then there are the Pie Baby vegan pies (all golden, flaky pasty and perfectly cooked fillings), whilst the BBQ pulled jackfruit and black bean wrap is the perfect grab-and-go lunch option.
The vibe is chilled out and welcoming; expect a wonderfully smiley welcome, eclectic decor and great tunes. Whether you're after a quick coffee (beans come from local roastery Bristol Twenty) to take away or a leisurely brunch/lunch with pals, Roots Lounge is the perfect addition to Bristol's thriving veggie and vegan scene.
