Any Bristol foodie worth their salt knows that since opening, the converted shipping containers down at Wapping Wharf have become the hot ticket to culinary excellence in our fair city. Whether it's veggie curry deliciousness from GoPals Curry Shack, tasty, local cider from the Bristol Cider Shop, or a bubble tea from Cupp, Cargo and Cargo 2 are your one-stop-shop for fantastic food and drink.
MeatBox, a small but perfectly formed butchery dedicated to responsibly raised, often organic, and ALWAYS free-range meat, is the latest addition to the already-wonderful selection. The brains behind the operation is Luke Hasell, an award-winning organic farmer devoted to offering high-welfare meat to Bristolians. The variety is incredible, including all the classic Sunday roast joints, handmade organic burgers, thick-cut, dry-aged, pasture-fed steaks, as well as some more exciting and unusual cuts, and a choice range of local charcuterie from the Mendips.
Luke explains the thought process behind MeatBox: "The butcher shop creates a beautiful lifecycle for whole animals - beef, pork, lamb, chicken, rabbit and duck. The animals all come from farms that are organic or part of the Pasture Fed Livestock Association. Our suppliers have been hand-picked with the highest regard to animal husbandry and ultimate tastiness for our customers.”
Wriggle recommends heading to MeatBox ahead of date night, absorbing some wisdom from Luke and his team, and discovering a fabulous new cut of meat to cook for dinner. While you're down at Wapping Wharf, check out the other amazing crates, and be sure to keep an eye on Wriggle for some additional amazing produce to complement your date night dinner. Why not head to Beer Necessities, and pick up some locally produced craft beer to accompany your deliciously meaty dinner?
Please note, as with most of the business down at Cargo2, the gang at MeatBox are still working out which opening hours work best for them, so it's a good idea to ring ahead (07398 534361) and check that they're open to avoid disappointment!
