Why we love it

If you head on over to the picturesque Greenbank Road, Easton, you'll discover an absolute treasure trove of colourful and enticing vegan and organic treats, ready to satisfy and delight plant and meat-eaters alike. Its name? Matter Wholefoods.

Jon and his team have lovingly yet meticulously put together a selection of produce and products so varied and lovely that you'll find yourself happily whiling away a morning here. Everything in the shop is organic, and excepting eggs and honey, it's all vegan too. Matter stocks a broad range of specialist and unusual vegan produce, such as vegan donner kebab, vegan sausage, and vegan cocktail sausages. Matter Wholefoods source their bread from Old Market Assembly, and use in in the sandwiches they sell, as well as selling it in the shop. Their vegan brownies and raw cakes are to die for (not literally - neither animals nor humans are to be harmed in the vicinity of Matter Wholefoods plz), whilst their hearty soups are the perfect winter warmer.

Head over to this vegan paradise in Easton, side-step the supermarkets and stock up on organic veg, then pull up an oh-so-fabulous seat at the red and white spotted mushroom tables and chairs which have sprouted outside the shop. Enjoy.

PS - If you're hungry for more vegan treats, head to Fishponds Road and check out sister shop, Matter Fastfoods. Vegan fish and chips has to be tried to be believed, but trust us when we say, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Easton is something of a hidden gem. To strangers, it's a mysterious land, accessible only by the Stapleton Road train station, and often overlooked in favour of the trendier Stokes Croft, North Street, and Clifton scenes. To those in the know, however, wandering round Easton is the hot ticket to a fabulous weekend of tasty, authentic, and varied food and drink. Allow us to enlighten you!
