The Coconut Tree is one of those perfect places where you get to discover new flavours, where one bite transports you halfway across the planet and where the good vibes make you want to stay forever… or come back any chance you get.
The gorgeously friendly team at the Coconut Tree are bursting with enthusiasm and knowledge about the delicious street food of Sri Lanka, and will delightedly talk you through the brilliant small plates menu that's been expertly designed for sharing. A word to the wise: order a hopper each – the signature egg-based dish that packs a seriously flavourful punch. While you eat, we'd strongly recommend familiarising yourself with the Cocotail menu – the Coconut Tree's delectable range of sweetly feisty cocktails, which you can enjoy until late at night on weekends... did you say perfection doesn't exist?
The Coconut Tree is basically your Sri Lankan home in Bristol, where you’ll get some laid-back, family vibes and awesome, tasty food… Do we really need to say anything more?
The Colombo fried cheese was something else.
We've walked past Coconut Tree many times just because of the sheer choice of food & drink on Gloucester Rd - SOO glad we went in for lunch the other day! Had the kotthu dishes, wondering if they'd be enough for a lunch on their own. They turned out to be super-filling, full of taste - the chicken dish really didn't skimp on the meat, and the veggie version was equally flavoursome - the egg & shredded pancake made them both substantial, and they had a little kick while being low down on the spice scale. A great array of cocktails too - we wanted to try the dessert-like variation on an Old-Fashioned, and basically didn't know you could do that many things with Arrack. Though the Tree wasn't too busy, their soundtrack was banging and we're gonna come back with friends next time.
Tasty food and great cocktail
Fabulous food and cocktails. Didn't think it would be as good as it was but really best meal out for ages.
Delicious food, attentive staff and lovely experience all round. Thought the cocktails could be a bit more flavoursome. Loved the Sri lanken pad Thai dish but the goat curry could’ve gave chunkier pieces and been a little more tasty.
