Ceres has recently landed on the main strip of Stokes Croft. Chef Dan Ingram, who has previously worked with the likes of Heston Blumenthal, has been inspired to name all his winning dishes after brunch cafes in Melbourne.
The coffee, in true Melbourne style, is top-notch, as is their list of brunch-style mains - which include The Auction Rooms (smashed avo and poached eggs on sourdough) or their Dutchess of Spotswood (Eggs Royale with Smoked Salmon and burnt butter hollandaise) and their speciality Square Mile (Sweet corn fritters, smashed avo, grilled halloumi, kasundi and poached egg). They also serve up mean Pancakes - and on the more exotic side there's the St. Ali (a Black rice porridge with coconut cream and mango). The decoration style is minimal - with chic white walls and stools covered in coffee-bag hemp - but Dan's enthusiasm and passion for what's he's doing is palpable, and we think he's onto a winner.
