After countless years in the wilderness, the top end of Gloucester Road has finally been blessed with a mythically brilliant little coffee shop: a passion project, family-run café, creative hub and open-to-all hangout known as Jackalope (named in reverence to owner Jac's spirit animal: a half-jack-rabbit half-antelope creature that loves whisky - but, legend has it, can be equally tamed by great coffee).
Step inside and you'll be greeted by wall-mounted pot plants, art from the café's talented customers and upcycled furniture - shades of fresh green and bright flashes of colour over clean, white walls and a textured chipboard or two.
Expect home-made cake, hearty doorstop sandwiches and light weekend brunching (if you're hankering after some munching); for coffee and tea, carefully curated offerings abound (Bristol's own Extract Coffee Roasters need no introduction, and the orange-trimmed bags of Waterloo Tea have been making fragrant, artisan leaves dance for many highly regarded years over the Severn in Cardiff). Take some time and gaze out onto the roadside hustle and bustle from a window stool in the front room... or venture further into the Jackalope's lair where myriad nooks, crannies, board-game hidey-holes or even a secret city garden await you.
