Bristol Cookhouse is owned and run by Sam, a woman with cooking in her genes. With a great-grandfather who worked as a master baker and confectioner in Bristol and parents who were creative, innovative cooks in their own home, it's unsurprising that Sam has built a life and career around delicious, excellent quality food.
After a period of time spent travelling the world, cooking in Ibiza, the Caribbean and on private yachts for celebrity clients, Sam realised that this jet-setting lifestyle was impacting upon her health and wellbeing. She undertook a Masters in Food Science and Nutrition, moved to London, and trained in 'nose-to-tail' style cooking, learning to make seasonal, nutritional and delicious meals.
After over 30 years in the industry, the Bristol Cookhouse represents a distillation of Sam's life and career in food. Her philosophy centres around real, home-cooked food that is properly satisfying and nourishing. Downstairs in the Bristol Cookhouse there's a small canteen area, whilst upstairs there's a lovely events space, which hosts a regular series of fantastic classes, events, talks and meet-ups.
In the canteen, during the daytime you should expect a stunning range of seasonal brunches that changes every few months according to what's fresh and at its best. In the evenings, though, a fantastic evolution happens in Bristol Cookhouse, as the space plays host to a diverse range of events that ranges from murder mystery nights to themed pop-up supper clubs, guest chef focus sessions and everything else in between.
