January is time for Belly Laughs, a series of comedy gigs around Bristol and the South West, set in independent restaurants and cafes. Belly Laughs is a showcase of Bristol's food and comedy talent. It promises unforgettable nights in intimate venues, and all proceeds go to support Julian Trust, a night shelter in central Bristol.
It's the brainchild of Bristol comedian, Mark Olver, who started Belly Laughs last year after noticing how January was a quiet period for both restaurants, and for his comedian friends. He saw the opportunity to book in some impossible gigs―huge names in tiny spaces―and to raise money for a worthy charity. Last year, Belly Laughs put on shows in ten venues around Bristol, and raised over five thousand pounds.
Lineups will change right up till the moment the show begins. He's already confirmed Rosie Jones, Fern Brady, Jarred Christmas, Stuart Goldsmith for different spots across the festival, as well as dozens of the best of Bristol's comedy scene. These gigs will be sold out before the exact lineups are known, so think of it as a secret gig. Expect a great show with great food and know you're supporting a good cause.
