A romantic vision of French food and hospitality, discretely tucked away on Baldwin street. So good it doesn’t really need signage, it’s barely visible from street level, but a short flight of steps leads into a high ceilinged, big windowed space adorned with choice illustrations, faded maps and absolute charm. Owners Peter and Max – formerly of Riverstation and Bell’s Diner – pour superb biodynamic (chemical free) wine from the region of their hotel in Auvergne, served up alongside traditional French grub.
Think small plates of prime cut beef steak, endive salads daubed with fruity olive oil, lemon juice and a dash of rock salt, killer Montgomery’s Cheddar cheese toasties and meat boards (pork rillette, pistachio encrusted terrine, slabs of saucisson, tangy cornichons and baby onions).
