The Old Bakehouse Cafe

The Old Bakehouse, 5-7 Lowther Rd, Brighton BN1 6LF

Why we love it?

Perched between period housing mid-way up a leafy Preston Park / Fiveways hill, The Old Bakehouse Café is a welcome opportunity to saunter around a path-less-trodden. Owner Renee and her team emphasise provenance, quality and originality in this little hideaway, and service always comes with a quintessentially Australian smile. Expect to sample Small-Batch coffee (and *proper* flat whites), Bluebird Mixologist Tea, fresh loaves & pastries and some dangerously tasty homemade gooey things. The chocolate Guinness cake is dangerously moreish. It's not all naughtiness, though. The Old Bakehouse has some very special savoury plates including vibrant open sandwiches, tarts and frittatas, all made with quality ingredients and a liberal sprinkling of love). Head here for some foodie "quality time" punctuated by a splendidly curated playlist, the comings & goings of a loyal local crowd and the gentlest of conversational hubbubs. Lovely.
