Among a veritable hatchery of upmarket fried chicken joints, Hen (‘Happy, Eat Natural’) can rightly strut its stuff as cock of the walk. The menu is straightforward as can be, short of numbering; pick a burger (definitely your best bet), fried pieces off the bone or grilled options to suit. Choose from a strong selection of sides – sweet potato fries, seared corn on the cob, slaw, sauerkraut – and a three-speed spicy sauce. It’s casual, but well executed enough to warrant a flypast. Plus they do brunch, with waffles and everything. Our waiter, rightly, fancied himself a cocktail whizz, whipping up a note-perfect bellini, with a crisp craft beer in frosted tumbler for to follow. Win.
