On a southern side of Hove’s main drag sits this bijou bottleshop which doubles as an upmarket deli and small plate dining space. Attention to detail is king – it’s owned and run by two chefs – with nice touches like the wine shelved by region (Rhone, Bordeaux), stocking more bottles than you might expect in the sub-ten quid bracket. As for food, cured meats from Spain and Italy (notably the somewhat sweet, somewhat peppery ‘Salchichon Serrano’) are a highlight, and they’re proud to be the only place in town you can buy premium dairy goods from Neal’s Yard. Salt beef is legendary in the neighbourhood, as are the salads (pink fir apple potatoes, samphire, and walnuts with pickles a definite highlight). Perfect for a posh nibble and quiet quaff.
