Proper, greasy pizza served by leggy, heavily-tatted staff and a strict vinyl-only music policy? Nice, but not for the twee. For real atmosphere, great food cooked right in front of you (the chef’s station resembles a DJ booth, right in the heart of the sizeable back room bar) and concomitant wafting of garlicky aromas, plus regular live bands and entertainment, Dead Wax is dead on. Better yet, the wonderfully scuzzy teenage-gig-venue vibe is lent real polish by the excellent rotating craft beer selection from Fourpure, Magic Rock, Laine’s and Redchurch. Go on, treat your bad self.
