Where do you go when you’re looking for somewhere to raise the spirits? For us, it’s The Village in Moseley - and we’ll tell you why.
Situated on the Northern end of Alcaster Road, The Village is a refreshing spot in Birmingham’s pub scene: always bustling, always bright and always welcoming, it’s a relaxing hangout that has a home away from home feel to it. Inside, it balances a contemporary yet classical look well, with art deco lights hanging above the bar, modern geometric tiling and plenty of large open space. At one end, you’ll find a snug area offering a comforting refuge with its absorbing sofas and glowing log burner, whilst the rest of the space is a scattering of neat tables dressed for dinner with inviting arched chairs.
One of our favourite features of The Village is its outdoor space. Not only does it have straight-up outdoor benches, but they also have a modern glasshouse. With its bi-folding glass windows and retractable roof, the glasshouse is built for all seasons, giving you a space to sip a spritz and enjoy a light bite in the summer, or tuck into a roast and watch the snow-fall in the darkest depths of the winter months. It’s a unique setting, and one that comes into its own as the seasons change from Summer to Autumn when you really want to make the most of being outside.
Although you’ll struggle to find somewhere that trumps The Village on the drinks front (we think its ale selection is one of the best around), it’s the food that particularly draws us to this hangout. Gastro-pub style, the menu is a hearty mix of old-school dishes (think homemade pies and tender fish and chips) to big burgers (order the lamb burger). It’s homely food - familiar and modest but ticks all the right boxes. They serve some outstanding roasts on Sunday too, with an unlimited supply of roast potatoes and gravy top-ups.
The Village represents everything we love about Moseley, with its welcoming atmosphere and unpretentious acts of kindness. Stop by for a couple of pints and some pub grub and we guarantee you’ll leave happy.
