Slap bang in the middle of the Jewellery Quarter stands The Button Factory in its proudly restored home that resonates with Birmingham’s rich industrial heritage. This is one popular bar; bursting at the seams almost every night of the week, it’s lively joint full of nearby workers and city-breakers alike.
Inside, The Button Factory has a timeless look, mixing an old-school pub vibe with industrial flourishes. Each room is cavernous in size, finding a balance between comfortable seating arrangements (the leather booths are our go-to hangout) and space to stand and chat. The walls are largely undecorated, showing off exposed brickwork and large street facing windows, but there’s the occasional vertical garden adding a burst of green to the rooms minimal and cool glow.
Head outside onto the terrace and you’ll soon realise that this is where the life of the party is. With ample space, heaters and umbrellas, it’s the sort of terrace you’ll find yourself in come rain or shine. We’re particular fans of the astro-turf flooring that gives it an unusual country-pub look, miles different from the city landscape that surrounds the venue.
The Button Factory is most popular as a watering-hole, serving all sorts of libations to loosen you up. Craft beer is on tap and lining the fridges, alongside a stellar wine selection. But cocktails are definitely the order of the day; with a bar stacked relentlessly with spirits and mixers, The Button Factory team turn out some mean cocktails. Keep it classic with an Espresso Martini or Whisky Sour, or grab yourself their very own Factory Cooler (made with vodka, passionfruit, watermelon, and cranberry).
But they don’t mess around when it comes to food either. Far from your stand gastro-pub, The Button Factory serves a unique menu of grilled meats and vegetables, cooked over English oak with an open flame. We’re talking flat iron chicken served with fries, quality lamb flatbreads, and a dirty jackfruit burger. They also serve a mean Bottomless Brunch which includes two or three courses and an unlimited refill on Bellinis and Prosecco - but don’t oversleep as spaces for this fill up fast!
With this winning formula, it’s no surprise that The Button Factory is a popular choice for a beer or two on a Friday night. Who’s joining us there this week?
