If you’re looking for somewhere special, you’ve just found it. Opheem is a big hitter in Birmingham’s food scene, with numerous accolades from food critics and chefs alike that owe to its progressive approach to Indian cooking. Headed by chef Aktar Islam (Winner of Great British Menu and Gordon Ramsay’s Fword), the Opheem team push the boundaries of Indian flavours by utilising classic and modern techniques that results in an unforgettable culinary experience.
The dishes are simply stunning. Precision is key to the plating, with a fine balance of vibrant colours, textures and tastes to create a neat dish that stimulate the senses. The menus change throughout the day, with an a la carte lunch available during the day, and main courses and set menus on offer during their evening openings. If you’re splashing out, we recommend the five or seven course tasting menu; it’ll take you on a culinary journey through some of the best and most unique dishes and flavours that the Opheem team create, and ensures you get to sample a little bit of everything that’s on offer.
Of our personal favourites, the Kekda Kerala (soft-shell crab in caraway seed tempura with crab shaami) is a winner, and the Nilgiri Goshy Tamil Nadu (lamb pave, smoked shoulder, courgette, green herb & bone marrow sauce) is a must try. To finish, it’s got to be the Sharbat Jammu - Herefordshire cherries, sweet cheese sorbet, red butterfly sorrel.
It’s not just the food that displays an air of sophistication - the space itself exudes an elegance and style that’s second to none. The brushed grey walls create a luxurious yet soft look to the space, whilst overhead a net of bulbs gracefully illuminate the largest part of the dining area. Elsewhere, gold lines and geometric shapes add an extra depth of wealth to the space. Overall, it’s an incredible site that prepares you perfectly for the dishes that await you.
Opheem is a phenomenal destination; a temple of surprises and exquisite eats. Add this to your hit-list immediately.
