Why we love it

If you’re looking for a bit of dinner-time entertainment, then you’ve come to the right place. Diners at Miyako Teppanyaki are invited to partake in a live cooking experience, as chefs prepare your orders in front of your very eyes using a Japanese teppan grill that sits in the centre of each marble topped table. Chefs prepare everything from scratch right there on the heated steel plates, showing off their cooking skills with artistic flare. They even coax out a flash of fire now and again, using white wine and brandy to spark a flame into life.

Sometimes it feels more like a trip to the theatre than a restaurant, but there’s nothing wrong with that; unique in its ways, dining at Miyako Teppanyaki is an unforgettable experience and gives you a rare opportunity to see class A chefs in action.

And don’t for a minute think it’s all for show. This display of culinary prowess results in a huge variety of exquisite and perfectly cooked dishes. On a whole, Miyako Teppanyaki prides itself on its collection of Japanese favourites. For sushi fans, they offer the full works, with sashimi, nigiri and maki all part of their staple options. We’re particular fans of the gioheri sashimi: a rare beef sashimi, flash fried in a matter of seconds on the teppan grill.

When it comes to the main dishes, Miyako Teppanyaki struts its stuff with a flawless selection of inspired specials that merge traditional Japanese elements with their own way of cooking and taste preferences. We’re talking plates like king Prawns and scallops cooked in Tokyo butter sauce, duckling breast with pineapple and onions, and spicy stir fried lamb with spring onion and ginger. For fish lovers however, you’ve got to check out their Seafood Combination: a satisfying medlay of lobster, scallops and king prawns, freshly cooked in front of you.

If you really want the full experience however, you can’t beat their set menus. This certainly takes the pressure off ordering, and offers you the chance to sit back, relax and watch the cookery unfurl in front of you. These set menus are vast, giving you the opportunity to sample a variety of traditional and inspired Japanese eats.

Miyako Teppanyaki’s innovative way of marrying cookery with performance creates a truly captivating experience. It’s a flawless display of the art of cooking, and reminds us that there’s more joy in food that just its consumption.
