Originally a player on the street food market and pop-up scene, Katsu Kitchen opened up their first bricks and mortar establishment in Moseley in 2019, bringing an inspired taste of Japan to the suburbs of Moseley.
Owner and chef Yujiro’s passion for Japanese cuisine spans back to his childhood. His inspiration comes from his mother’s home cooking, which introduced him to the world of Japanese cuisine (in particular, her pork katsu curry), its depth of flavours and the artistry behind it. Taking everything he’s learnt in the kitchen, Yujiro launched Katsu Kitchen as a place to share amazing tastes with everyone that stops by.
With such passion and understanding behind Katsu Kitchen, you know you’re in for an outstanding eat. Headlining the menu is the team’s exceptional chicken katsu curry: a lightly crumbed chicken cutlet, served with a rich and spicy sauce on top of a generous portion of super sticky rice - it really is no wonder that this is one of the most popular Japanese dishes in the UK! The Katsu Kitchen team understand how irresistable slices of crispy panko chicken are, including it across the menu in their maki rolls and as a topping in their ramen. But don’t get us wrong - this isn’t all about meat. There’s also some exquisite vegetarian and vegan friendly dishes to boot, in forms of curries, donburi and salads.
Once you’ve gone through the agonising process of choosing a main (believe us - you’re going to want to try everything), be sure to get some of the sides too. You definitely need to get your hands on some of the panko chips, but be sure to throw in some kimchi pickles to add an extra crunch to the meal.
Katsu Kitchen is a worthy addition to Birmingham’s vibrant restaurant scene. Head over there and tuck into a new favourite.
