Why we love it

Hidden unassumingly in a parade of shops on Coventry Rd, you’ll find one of our favourite gems in Birmingham’s expanding food scene: Jilabi Indian Restaurant.

Jilabi’s strong reputation starts with its good looks. Before even picking up a menu, there’s something so positive about the atmosphere, with the light bright space lending to a relaxed feel. The team have kept things stylish and simple with the design, dedicating the space to high-end and comfortable furniture, and a few subtle embellishments, rather than getting too carried away with gaudy decorations. It modern and inviting; a sophisticated yet friendly space where the team make you feel welcome and comfortable as soon as you step foot through the door.

Behind the scenes, a team of award-winning chefs work their hands at creating some truly inspired dishes. The menu speaks volumes about their skills; a collection of creative eats line the pages, with starters like salmon tikka seasoned with a sprinkling of turmeric and rock salt, and vegetarian sharing platters (featuring samosas, onion bhajees, dhokla and Bombay chaat), to saucy servings of kulchan chicken (a North Indian version of chicken masala), king prawn dopiaza, and rich mixed balti dishes making up just a handful of the mains. Of our favourites, the ‘Mr Hackett’s Screaming Chicken Chilli Curry’ is a fiery treat that hits the spot. And for a cooler bite, the slow-cooked lamb chops in red pepper sauce makes for a superb change of scene. All in all, Jilabi have mastered a menu that balances popular classics alongside a fantastic range of unique creations.

There’s a lot of passion and dedication that goes into the full experience at Jilabi - and it certainly shows. A relaxed spot with attentive hosts and an exquisite menu to boot, they’ve mastered the formula that other eateries can only dream of.
