If you’re a fan of slow-cooked smoky meat dishes and American-style dirty burgers, then you’ve come to the right place: Buffalo and Rye pack everything you love and then some.
It might look like a small joint from outside, but Buffalo and Rye packs a big flavour. The overall feel to the space is old-school, with a spread of vintage furniture and lighting, as well as a few casual nods to motorcycle culture. Most of the space is taken up by a handful of long communal tables surrounded by stylish stalls with hairpin legs, but there’s also a spread of smaller tables for a more intimate dining experience. All of this builds up to a small but busy bar area, illuminated by rows of bright strip lights reaching across the front. The whole space resonates a classic American diner feel without being at all cheesy; it’s far too cool and contemporary to play down to cliches and over embellishments.
The menu carries on this classic but contemporary vibe with burgers and dogs, large plates, smaller plates, and those all important sides making up its DNA. The burgers are picture perfect: American-style patties handmade with beef from local suppliers are served with a range of toppings, from pickles and sauteed onions to black pudding and mountainous beef brisket pieces. What stands out with Buffalo and Rye is the flavour of their beef patties. In fact, there’s no need to be too outrageous with toppings; keep it simple with the House Cheese burger and let the smokey flavour of the beef shine through - you won’t regret it.
When it comes to their large and smaller plates, you can expect plenty of BBQ meats that are smoked in-house daily. Here, the beef brisket reigns supreme - slow cooked for 14hrs, they melt in the mouth, dissolving in a tender smokey haze thanks to its homemade coffee rub. You should also get your hands on a couple of the buttermilk chicken tacos for a lighter and fresher taste.
As if the choice of food isn’t enough to lure you in, then wait until you get a load of their drinks selection. Buffalo and Rye have stocked up on some outstanding beers from national and international breweries, including choices from Kona, Tiny Rebel and Sadlers. They’re not shy of a whisky or two either, with a huge selection that’s worth exploring; if you’re not sure you know a Scotch from a Bourbon, have a word with the team and they’d be happy to part some knowledge onto you.
Buffalo and Rye have pulled out all the stops to create an immersive experience and outstanding menu. Be sure to stop by - we guarantee you’ll want to move in.
