With its buzzy outdoor terrace, vibrant drinks, and bar plates, Bar Opus feels more like a trendy drinking spot in Barcelona than somewhere in the heart of Birmingham’s city centre - and that’s exactly why Bar Opus is such a popular spot.
At its heart, Bar Opus is a laid-back cocktail bar, creating colourful and natural cocktails using the finest spirits around. Their menu changes with the seasons to match the availability of ingredients and (above all) tastes that match the weather. From their very own special daquiri to a dark chocolate Negroni, Bar Opus redefine a handful of classic cocktails to create a unique selection that’s exciting, innovative and full of flavour. Our current favourite has to be the “smoked almond highball” made with Laphroaig Whisky, amaretto, lemon juice, ginger beer. There’s a neat selection of draught beers alongside high-quality wines too, so no matter what you’re in the market for, you’ll find it at Bar Opus.
The food here is also a big draw, with larger a la carte dishes and smaller bar plates making up the menu. If you’re looking at going down the a la carte route, Bar Opus turn out some fantastic favourites, including a light beer battered fish and chips, spicy Soba noodles with mixed vegetables, and a delicate breaded chicken burger. But for us, it’s the bar plates that rule supreme; after all, when you’re enjoying a refreshing Spritz or crisp pint of Estrella, there’s nothing better than picking away at shareable servings of marinated chicken skewers, honey glazed chorizo, and carrot, sweetcorn & courgette fritters. Topped off with a handful of olives and you’re onto a winner. As an added bonus, it’s good to know that Bar Opus source their ingredients from ethical producers across the UK and keep things seasonal where possible.
Next time working drinks are in order, mix it up with a refreshing trip to Bar Opus.
