One of the things we love about the food and drink scene in Bath is its imaginative approach to making the most of every nook and cranny the city has to offer - and The Hideout is no exception. Tucked in Lilliput Court, The Hideout is a small yet mighty vaulted cocktail bar that brims over with a buzzy energy. It’s stylish yet unpretentious, with waves of old-fashioned decor flowing in parts of the space (such as its wood panelled ceiling) without taking anything away from its modern vibe. The team reflects the Jekyll and Hyde style the space displays too, mixing waistcoats and beige twill aprons with baseball caps and monochrome tattoos.
By nature, The Hideout is a whisky bar, describing themselves as purveyors of fine whisky. And they’re not wrong - the whisky line-up here kicks. Scotch (highland, lowland, speyside, island, and islay), American (bourbon, rye), Irish, and Japanese are just some of their lengthy varieties on offer, but you’ll find libations from all over the world.
Then there’s the cocktails. Despite whisky being their number one, their cocktails aren’t all whisky based. In fact, their menu treads an almost 50/50 balancing act between whisky and non-whisky cocktails, so there’s something for everyone. That being said, when in Rome do as the Romans do; even if you’re not sure about whisky, we recommend asking the team to create a whisky cocktails based on your taste preferences - we’re almost certain they can change your mind about the world of whisky in a single glass.
When it comes to cocktail making, the team at Hideout have some serious skills to show you. There’s a real artistry to every drink they make, and you can be sure to expect a bit of flair (and even fire) every flip, pour and shake of the way. The end result: a real masterful cocktail that tastes as good as it looks.
Enter the Hideout and prepare to be entertained.
